GRAPE VARIETIES: SANGIOVESE minimum 80% and up to 20% of other non-aromatic approved red grape varieties from the designated area.

WINE NAME and STYLES PRODUCED:
- Chianti Classico – Red Still
- Minimum legal ageing: Wine cannot be released prior to October 01, year following the harvest. No specific ageing method requirements. Minimum alcohol 12%. Vineyard name can be included on a label.
- Chianti Classico Riserva – Red Still
- The term “Riserva” must be aged for 2 years in oak, followed by minimum 3 months in the bottle calculated from the 1st of January of the year following the grape harvest. Minimum alcohol 12.5%. Vineyard name can be included on a label.
PRODUCTION DISCIPLINES:
- Yield - Maximum yield per hectare: 7,500 kilograms and at the same time no more 3 kg (6.6 Lbs) of grapes per vine. All new vineyard plantings must have minimum density of 3,350 vines per hectare. As of 2006 NO white grapes may be used.
PRODUCTION AREA:
- Communes: Greve in Chianti (FI), Castellina in Chianti (SI), Gaiole in Chianti (SI), Radda in Chianti (SI) as well as from parts of approved areas of communes Barberino Val d’Elsa (FI), San Casciano in Val di Pesa (FI), Castelnuovo Berardenga (SI) and Poggiobonsi (SI).
SPECIAL NOTES: Chianti Classico may be released in straw-wrapped glass bottles that are approved by the CONSORZIO. Containers may NOT be re-used.
